Photo Friday

by Michael Chandler

Ah, the weekend.  We are gonna be at the track on Saturday and furiously editing photos, video and skulling energy drinks like our lives depend on it on Sunday.  But for Friday we give you these, a pair of photos for you to use as wallpapers if you see fit.

Porsche 911 GT3 at the track

While I never actually saw the McLaren or Ferrari on the track, I did see this little red Beetle 997 911 GT3 tearing it up.  If not for The Black Pearl it would have been the fastest thing out there.

Yellow C6 Corvette wallpaper

I moved a little over a month ago, and this is what my roommate keeps in the garage: a banana yellow C6 Corvette.  I’m trying to convince him to bring it to a Wide Open Wednesday, but until then it’s going to live in the garage and wait for sunny days.

Track Day with the Track Pirates

by Michael Chandler

March 25 was the first open track day and NASA HPDE (High Performance Driver Education) of the year.  I had originally planned on doing nothing that glorious day, but Zane gave me an invite to come out so I packed up my gear and headed out.  Turns out it was a better idea than whatever I would have ended up doing.

I got out there as HPDE group was in pre-grid and getting a warning from the starter about potential slick spots on the track.  I said whats up to Zane, Fernando (to be here by known as Nando, because I hate ABBA), Brent, Biggie (provider of Lap Battle), Sally (from Wyoming, not a pirate) and Todd (pirate).

The HPDE session went off, the race group session went off, I ran for the first time in months to position myself for the next HPDE session which went off nicely, and then it was time for the lunch break.  I spent some of the lunch break ogling a pair of high dollar exotics, ogling the Air Power Racing stable, and buying a $5 pretzel.  Track food is expensive…

With pretzel in hand I climbed into Zane’s truck and we headed to the lounge and watched a little bit of JDM Option.  It’s not the nicest lounge, but it’s got everything a track rat needs: a lift, tools, a fridge, TV, couches, an Xbox and a massive wall of tires.

The lunch break ended before we could get deep into the JDM Option DVD, but why watch a DVD when you’re at a world class race track?  Exactly, so out we went: them to drive and me to shoot photos  After more clean sessions we headed back to the garage, where one of the neighbors opened his garage to play with some of his toys: a Lamborghini Gallardo and a supercharged first generation Viper huffing nitrous oxide!

All in all it was a good day.  A big thanks to the Pirates for letting me hang out.  You’ll definitely be seeing more of them on CAM in the future.

UtahHondas.net Spring Meet

by Michael Chandler

For the fifth year, UtahHondas.net held their annual Spring meet at Barnes Park in Kaysville, UT.  The meet has grown in size every year since its inception, and this year was no different.  Over 500 cars made the trek to the small town, conquered two parking lots and part of the street!  Every make is welcomed at the meet, from Scions to Subarus to Toyotas to BMWs, there was even a pretty clean Charger R/T hanging out.

I snagged some photos, but if you’re still hungry there are plenty more on UtahHondas

Shop Feature: Innovative Garage

by Michael Chandler

Innovative Garage in Utah

There used to be a quaint little shop in Orem that had a reputation for setting up the suspensions on some fast cars.  Unfortunately that shop is no more…in Orem. Yes, as you have probably heard Jason packed up Innovative Garage and moved it to Cottonwood Heights. I swung by, shot some photos and video and drank the Rockstar he offered me.

Honda and Acura road race cars

They’re still getting settled in at their new location (1346 Fort Union Boulevard, Cottonwood Heights, UT), but they are still offering all their usual services: from routine maintenance to race/track car prep and storage to driver coaching and track support.

Whats left to do?  Finish up the store front, set up the lounge, paint and keep doing business

Drifting at Global 1

by Michael Chandler

In another county, and on a far less sophisticated track, was a little drift get together thrown by the guys at D-Spare.com.  Fun? YOU BET! Out of the way? NO DOUBT!  Worth the drive?  UNEQUIVOCALLY YES!

I arrived after Brandon broke his turbo, so no awesome photos of the purple/silver/green S13 today.  However there were more people in attendance besides Brandon and Jose.  Mike (flat black S13) came out to play, as did Nick (the Miata), a pair of E36 BMW’s, an RB swapped S13, a turbo’d AE86 coupe, a 3 rotor turbo FC and the usual cast of favorites.

Twas a fun event, one that will certainly happen again and one that we will certainly head to

WinterX March 10

by Michael Chandler

Wintercross

Hi everybody!  It’s great to be back.  Sorry for the lack of…well anything.  Winter and full time day jobs tend to have that effect, but no more!  We’re back!  And we’ve been out at the track as of late.

March 10th was the last WinterX event held out at Miller Motorsports Park for the year.  It was sunny, warm and not very wintery, but it was still a fun event.  For those unfamiliar with what WinterX is, think of it as Wide Open Wednesdays meets Lap Battle: you have gates like in the WOW events, but it’s timed and broken into classes and also uses the various track configurations MMP has to offer like Lap Battle does.  It’s wonderful and left me wondering why it’s taken me so long to make it to one.

Enough rambling, time for some photos!

The popular photo site has been home to CAMautoMag for a little while and a few people have found us out, so we might as well come clean. We’re pinning cars we like, as well as some of our own pictures. It’s a great place to kill time with car pictures. Check it out: Follow Me on Pinterest
