Update: Video by [func-shun] added.

The day after Bimmerfest, we hit up the Long Beach Convention Center for the Motion Auto Show.Bisimoto Porsche Twin Turbo I was a bit surprised by the turnout, but quantity doesn’t mean a lack of quality. Check out the pics to see what I mean.

While out on assignment covering Bimmerfest, I stopped in Las Vegas to shoot this beautiful Lotus Evora. It is for a personal project, but I had to share.

Bimmerfest 2012

by Trent

Bimmerfest 2012

This past weekend, the city of Pasadena contained 2500 BMW’s and a Pontiac Firebird(how it got in, we don’t know) in the field in front of the Rose Bowl. The President of BMW North America graced us with his presence, but it was the new M6 Coupe that he brought along that we all really wanted to see.
E46 BMW M3's

I was joined by our newest staff member, Nick Cherpeski, who took the reigns of a digital SLR and went to work. We had been up since 5am after crashing around 1am the night before, but the sight of so many beautiful BMW’s kept us going.

New BMW M6 Coupe

The new M6 and also the 6 Gran Coupe did not disappoint, and call me crazy, but I love that interior color combo!

We enjoyed our time at Bimmerfest and we hope you enjoy the photo gallery below.

Wicked Evo VIII

by Michael Chandler

CAMautoMag Mitsubishi Evo
Engine roaring, drums turning, and exhaust spewing. We walk into the dyno area at Ziptie Dynowerks to see this Evo pulling at the straps holding it to the dyno. “Pop-pop”, the exhaust spits as he lets off the gas. This Evo had just pulled down a baseline run of 400whp on Ziptie’s Mustang Dyno. Not bad, but there’s more to be had and this wicked Evo ensures it lives up to its reputation.

Lancer Evolution
Dan, the owner of this Evo, works on jets for his day job. Driving a mundane car isn’t what he wants. He wants the adrenaline, the speed. His parents told him he could have any car he wanted when he was 16, as long as it wasn’t fast. He showed them, he bought a Ford Ranger…then swapped in a 302 V8! This kind of attitude, led to this build.

600HP Evo
This wicked Evo starts off with a .040 overbore with forged pistons and rods. The motor breathes life into the Buschur Racing forward-facing manifold which lets the air spin the HTA GT3586R turbo and Tial Wastegate. Combined with a massive set of 1650cc FIC injectors, AEM fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator, and Walboro dual inline fuel pumps, all controlled by an AEM EMS, you know this car means business. It is cooled off by a Frozen Boost air to water intercooler.

Weds Sport and Brembo
This build has been a year in the making. While Dan was stationed overseas, BJ, the owner of the One of a Kind Galant built this motor for him. The bottom end was buttoned up, but a ported cylinder head and a custom Magnaflow exhaust would be needed. And getting the power to the ground is an MR transmission swap with an Exedy twin-plate clutch.

Buschur Racing Manifold
Dan spent a lot of time on the dyno getting this car tuned. Unfortunately, he was moving to a new base and time was limited. With it strapped to the rollers, the car made 529HP and 430 lb. ft. torque to the wheels at 28psi. No small figure, but there is more to come. The head gasket blew on the dyno, but the tuner knows 600whp is there.

4G63 in Evo 8
The power is there, and the looks are pure Evo. An Evo IX front bumper helps accentuate the front. A set of Tein springs bring the car closer to the ground and keep the car on the road. The wheels are Weds Sport and bring some style to the profile, while the stock Brembo brakes bring the car to a halt.

AEM Gauges in Mitsubishi Evolution
Future plans for the car include re-painting the stock brake calipers, getting that 600whp, and just enjoying the car to its fullest potential. After seeing this car make some pulls on that dyno, it needs to be driven, even if it does bite back every once in awhile.

Lap Battle/NASA Round 3

by Trent

Going to change it up a bit and combine the NASA/Lap Battle post. Scream at me if I’m doing it wrong.
First off, it was great seeing some HPDE cars out on the track tearing it up. Especially the 993 Turbo Porsche that has now become the subject of my dreams at night.
Porsche 993 Turbo track day
This was also the triumphant return of Brody Hamblin’s WRX on the track. This car has seen magazine features, but never seems to stay on the track very long. This time it was out there and it was fast, fast enough to nab the quickest AWD time.
Lap Battle Time Attack Subaru WRX

The Subaru’s featured recently by us in The Happy Couple Subaru’s were out at the track and Sally was rocking a new set of coilovers and Shawn managed the second fastest AWD time.
C4 Corvette race car
The NASA event was action packed with Jeff Miller’s chopped top C4 Corvette starting 4th and finishing 1st beating out the Porsche Cup cars. Well done! We look forward to another weekend out at the track next month!
Tommy CAMautoMag
Special thanks to Tommy for joining me at the track and rocking the iPhonography while Mike had to work.

Rally Sport Direct Eat, Greet & Swap Meet

by Michael Chandler

It was that time of year for Rally Sport Direct to conquer their street and let their customers, fans, well wishers, and people who wanted pizza to come and hang out.  This is a big draw every year, and thankfully RSD’s neighbors let them use their respective parking lots.  Everything from Hondas to Mazdas to Nissans and even a Chrysler 300C SRT8 came to join the Subaru and Mitsubishi faithful.  Check out the gallery, and check out the meet next year if you’re in town!

D-Spare Nissan 240 drift update

by Trent

The guys at D-Spare recently updated their look for the 2012 season. They asked us to grab some pics and a video and this is what we came back with.

It’s still mostly the same car. It’s still packing a Toyota 1JZ engine, and it still has the widebody kit on it. What you don’t see until they remove the deck lid or pop the hood is all the custom fabrication they did in the off season. They gutted the trunk and did a tubular front end. This work resulted in a 3rd place finish at Vegas ProAm round 2.

We will be out at the Vegas Pro-Am event in June snapping shots of this car and others.

Thanks to Brandon and Jose.

$30K Check: Mini Coupe S

by Trent

Mini Coupe S CAMautoMag Haters will hate, and I can imagine Jeremy Clarkson mumbling about how ugly it is, and many people do find it revolting. But that only spurs me on more!

Controversial styling is no stranger to me. The 2002 EP3 Honda Civic Si Hatch, not a huge hit because of its minivan-styling, I owned one. The 2004 Chrysler Crossfire that was overpriced and not styled for the common man. Had one of those too. The BMW X6? Love it! I like my cars to look interesting, the design should speak to me, even if it says something like “My beauty is on the inside”.

This brings me to today’s car, pictured above(and below), the Mini Coupe S! I love the styling! The backwards baseball cap of a roof adds to the character of the car. The square-ish rear end, looks better than the overly bulbous rear-ends of some cars. It’s a sharp-handling, less-practical version of the Mini Cooper Hardtop. Who needs back seats anyway?

CAMautoMag Mini Coupe

With 181HP in a something the size of large refrigerator box, it’ll scoot. The John Cooper Works version is to be desired with its 208HP, but falls on the wrong side of $30,000. Currently I’m driving either an automatic lowered VW or a motor crudely bolted to little more than wheels. I need an engaging-to-drive runabout that won’t shake my kidneys free on speed bumps or make me cough up my lunch on railroad tracks. This is the ticket!
