While it’s nice to imagine that we can drop $30k on a car that will inevitably leave us stranded somewhere, we live in the real world. We don’t have that kind of budget for our next
shitbox death trap project. So to simulate a realistic budget, I will roll an 10 sided die and then look for whatever nightmare costs that many thousands of dollars. Without further ado, the budget for this week is:
Well… crap. Might as well see what the flea market that is Facebook Marketplace has…
OH BOY! Only $1000 down for this A3 convertible. Doesn’t count.
Oooo! That’s a Buick, but it’s definitely not an Enclave.
Now here is something we can work with! This is a 1999 Infiniti G20t, which is a whole lot like the 200SX and Sentra SE-Rs of the time. This little front wheel drive sedan is powered by an SR20, and existed in the rest of the world as a Nissan Primera. What makes this appealing is the 5 speed manual, and seemingly not awful looking interior.
The interior doesn’t look too bad. It’s definitely seen its fare share of use, but from what I can see it’s not a total basket case. Toss that driver’s seat, throw in a bucket, and you’ll be good to go.
What is concerning is the chunk cut out of the quarter panel, above the driver’s rear wheel well. It’s probably an attempt at rust removal, that ended as soon as the rust was removed. Less of a concern (my middle name is Hubris) is the fact that it will crank, but won’t start. Could be simple enough to fix, or it could be the thing that finally ruins your life. Most likely scenario: it’s closer to the easy fix than the end of you as we know it.
So what say you? Would you pull the trigger on the $1000, non-running, red on black G20t? Let us know in the comments!
