Local Boy Rides Huracan GT3

by Michael Chandler

NASA Utah Round 2 Saturday-76

Madison Snow got a seat in the #48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.  All of the Huracans were insanely competitive, even giving the GTLMs and Prototypes fits with their speed.  Unfortunately, in the eleventh hour the #48 Huracan and the #16 Change Racing Huracan made contact with each other ahead of turn one.  Both cars spun across the end of pit lane, turn one and into the runoff area.  The #16 managed to escape with far less damage than the #48, and the Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini wound up 16th in class

We were all excited to see how the new Ford GTs would perform at their inaugural race under the stewardship of Chip Ganassi Racing, and… well, they did provide for some interesting moments.  Early in the race the #66 went behind the wall because it was stuck in 6th gear, and the #67 sprouted a leak from the left rear corner.  It was not the best showing, but CGR didn’t pack it in.  They got both cars back out, but both began suffering from gearbox issues.  The #66 finished 7th, and the #67 took 9th.

Magnus Racing Takes GTD Win

by Michael Chandler

Fall Enduro cover-1

Remember when Magnus Racing was just a humble outfit in a garage at Miller?  Me too, and then they won Daytona!  Then they stayed pretty much the same, just changed digs.  This year, in a new Audi R8 LMS GT3, they took their second win at the historic race.  Here’s a photo of the old Magnus 911 at a MPRA race (Miller Park Racing Association, super OG stuff) back in 2011, the year before they took their first win at Daytona.

Oliver Gavin in the #4 C7.R nosed ahead of the #3 C7.R driven by Antonio Garcia by .034 seconds to take the GTLM win at the Rolex 24!  We don’t have a photo of either of them, but here’s George Smith in his equally yellow C5.  Like Oli and Antonio, George has won his fare share of races and championships.

The Ford GT will be making it’s racing debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona at the end of the month.  We, and plenty of others, got to lay our eyes on one of the cars at SEMA last year in the Ford booth.  Photo: Nicholas Cherpeski
