The CAM Journal: Really Honda?

by Trent

2012 Honda Civic Si

There it is, the 2012 Honda Civic Si. Does it have a bunch of horsepower to match its dumbed down looks? Nope, only 3 more than the outgoing Civic Si. And now, it is official, Honda has lost any semblance of the soul it once had. (more…)

The 30K Dollar Check: Introduction

by Mustangjohnny

porsche 911 turbo
We all have our day dreams….What would be the first car we would buy after hitting the Lotto? I have limited myself to 5 cars from a couple of brands… 5 Porsche’s, 5 Ferrari’s, 5 Mustangs, 5 Corvettes etc, etc etc. So that leads to my “Short List” this is a realistic list of cars that I want to own before I die. Funny thing is……What if I told you that a lot of the cars on my list could be had for around 30k each?

So let us throw out the whole lotto thing and just for a moment, think what car you would buy for around 30k that would be used as a second or third recreational car. I was amazed at how long that list turned out to be after just a few minutes of pondering. Most of these cars are members of the Super Car alumni. In the coming months, Me and my comrades here at CAM will mix in with our madness, a series of articles entitled “30K Check” Where we will focus on one car that will faithfully fulfill childhood dreams, stop traffic, and hit a high rating on the Maverik Factor. Maverik Factor you say? This is the cars ability to generate attention while stopped at a local Maverik convenience store…..Think I am kidding? Try it some time. In each article we will dive into their history, price trends, and real world purchase and maintenance. This month, I will focus on an old school classic. The Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera, 1976-1989. The CAM Journal: Lexus LFA vs. Wheel of Cheese

by Trent

Lexus LFA

I work at a grocery store. In the service deli to be exact, and it sucks. However it does allow me to learn random things and drop these rabbit turds of knowledge onto any customer who wanders within earshot. I had one customer ask me about the big blocks of cheese; how much they weigh and how much they cost. I told him they weren’t that bad compared to the big ass wheels of Parmesan and Romano. Those cost upwards of $160 and are really useless because #1 they cost too much and #2 they’re too big for a normal person to use. Then I said maybe the greatest thing I’ve said this week: (more…)

The CAM Journal – Winter

by Trent

SnowI used to like winter, when I was a little kid and therefore stupid. I used to go sledding, have snowball fights and all that. It was great. Then I started snowboarding and everything got better. Then I got a driver’s license…and a job. That’s when things changed. (more…)

The Next…Mitsubishi Eclipse

by Trent

We are introducing a new segment called, “The Next…” This involves our predictions on what will replace the stalwart in the segment. Starting us off is the Mitsubishi Eclipse. It offers cheap power, AWD, somewhat sketchy reliability depending on who you talk to, and great looks. The next Mitsubishi Eclipse could have been the next Mitsubishi Eclipse, but with the introduction of the 3rd Generation, it went bigger, FWD only, and no turbo option. Just a 2.4L 4-cylinder that left a lot to be desired, and a 200HP V6 that also was lacking. So what could possibly be the next car to replace its dominance in the import scene? (more…)

Genuflection: Ferrari Testarossa

by Trent

Ferrari Testarossa

Genuflection:
gen·u·flec·tion
/ˌdʒɛnyʊˈflɛkʃən/ [jen-yoo-flek-shuhn]
–noun
an act of bending the knee or touching it to the ground in reverence or worship.

Nothing is quite so striking as a Ferrari. Especially when the world is used to Camry’s and Minivans. I was reminded of this as I ran into(not literally) a childhood dream car over the weekend. It was a Red on Red Ferrari Testarossa. It has the updated 512TR wheels, but it was classic Testarossa. And I was lusting after it in spite of it’s many flaws. (more…)

The CAM Journal – Johnny intro

by Mustangjohnny

Greetings Gear Heads!

As a fellow Petrol Head I am very excited to start my time here at CAMAutoMag. Just like Trent, Michael and the rest of the gang here at CAM, I share the passion for all things automotive. There is not to many cars I do not like. I am very open minded and have owned a large variety of different cars. I like stock cars, modified cars, but my all time weakness are sleepers. A Mercedes C230 with the big SLK55 V8 motor. A twin turbo Lingenfelter Z06, A 1974 Pinto runabout with a 450hp turbo 2300 SVO motor. A 1000 Horse power Stock looking ’87 Buick Regal T-Type, A stroker motor dressed to look stock. And finally a DeLorean with a twin turbo V8 Lotus Esprit engine….brilliant!   These are the things that get me excited. That is why I am so happy to be part of the CAM family. During the next couple of issues, I will touch on some memories, tell of some cars, and hopefully make you chuckle at my sometimes strange view of the automotive world. (more…)

El Murciélago Vuela en el Cielo de la Noche Sin Fin

by Michael Chandler

So we all know that the Murciélago is on its way out, and with it the V12 that’s been with the company for the last forty seven years is also on its way out too. This saddens me because the first car I was truly in love with had the twelve cylinder Bizzarrini mill shoved in the middle of it. It was the Diablo, and I unfortunately don’t have a good picture of one. I do, however, have a couple good photos of the next Lamborghini to house the legendary motor. (more…)
